SPEAKING

SPEAKING ACTIVITY

THE SHOPPING GAME
I present a game designed for Primary School students. The aim is to orally practice some vocabulary previously worked in the English lessons. Children of the first and second level can easily play it.

Kids should be divided into two groups: clerks and shoppers. The classroom furniture should be moved to create some desks where they can place the items. Depending on what vocabulary has been worked, this game can be modified, from a grocery’s, a fish market, a car repair shop, etc.
This can be used with different objects: plastic food, printed images, items made with clay by the students, etc.

Shoppers are given an amount of money and they have to ask for the product they want to shop. Clerks have to interact with the shoppers. Children will have the opportunity to change roles.

  1. Hi Pilar!
I find this activity very stimulating for young kids. It´s really important to learn a language by taking an active role in it, using it and expresing ourselves. This is a typical activity for the students in the earliest years of learning a foreign language. Well done!

    Regards.

  2. Hello!

I think this game is really interesting because the students can practice english and do calculations while they are shopping. So, they have the chance to implement some concepts from another subject, which is maths. Besides, they can learn how to do the shopping, which is a practical learning for the future. Good job!

    Kind regards,

    Angel
